Lees Brook Community School caters for students aged 11 to 18. There are over 1100 students on roll which will include over 100 students in the new Post-16 Skills Academy.

We believe:

  • How we learn is as important as what we learn, and the kind of person we each become matters as much as what we achieve.
  • We can learn from our mistakes as well as our successes.
  • The way in which we deal with other people matters, so we should always treat other people with respect and as we would wish to be treated.
  • We have the right to feel safe, secure and free from bullying in our college.
  • We have the right to learn and achieve at the highest level we are capable of.
  • We are each responsible for our actions and our behaviour, and for the contribution we make to our college community.

What are our aims?

Lees Brook Community School is committed to:

  • building a community for learning in which everyone - students, parents, staff, governors and our wider community - sees learning as a life-long process that they can engage in.
  • working with our students and their parents to enable each young person to achieve success in all areas of life: academic, personal, physical, and social.
  • changing the learning culture in our college community by raising aspirations, enhancing self-esteem, recognising achievement, promoting pride within the local area and providing pathways for gifted and talented students
  • developing a curriculum that personalises learning in order to meet the interests, needs and aspirations of each student by offering a wide range of academic and vocational courses

How to apply...

How to apply for post-16 courses

The Post-16 Guide to Courses is usually available from January. Copies are distributed to all secondary schools in Derby and the surrounding area. Copies are also available from Connexions Offices in Derby, Ilkeston, Long Eaton, Ripley and Belper.

If you are thinking about attending the Skills Academy in September 2012 you must complete an application form. The form is attached to the course guide booklet. The application form asks you about yourself, the current or last school you attended, what course/s you want to apply for and whether you need additional help to do your course. We also ask for a reference from your current or previous school. Application forms must be returned to Skills Academy Admissions, Lees Brook Community School, Morley Road, Chaddesden, Derby DE21 4QX.

After receiving the application form we will then invite you to a short interview. In some of our vocational courses like Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy and Hospitality and Catering you will also be required to undertake a practical skills test to enable us to determine which course level will suit you best.

Closing date(s) for post-16 courses

We cannot guarantee a place or an interview for a place if you apply after Friday 15 April 2011.
