Following pilot work with students in Chesterfield and Derby, a new online application system is being rolled out to all Year 10 students this summer. Derby City Council and Derbyshire County Council are introducing the system in response to a Government requirement to improve 14-19 education and training options across the country. Connexions Derbyshire are managing the process on behalf of the two local authorities working in partnership with the schools and learning communities.
The first stage of the new online application process will be introduced to current Year 10 students in the summer term. They will start making applications for courses starting in September 2011, when they move into Year 11. Students will receive information and advice on how to make online applications. This includes support from their schools careers programme and from their Connexions Personal Adviser to ensure they make the best post-16 option choices.
You can find out who the contacts for Routes Ahead are in your organisation by downloading the Routes Ahead contacts document.

Collaborative courses
There is a new national vision for 14-19 education. Local schools, colleges, training providers and employers are working together in partnership to provide young people in the area with more opportunities to study work-related qualifications in addition to the normal school curriculum.
Several areas have listed their collaborative offer on Routes Ahead as part of a `learning community` offer.
